Eric Roberson @ U street Music Hall Recap
On Monday, despite another wintry mix, I made it to the Eric Roberson show. The opening act was Levi Stephens. Unfortunately I probably missed half of his performance looking for parking. But I was able to catch him do a few songs, one of them an Al Green cover. He also played the hell out of his guitar. That was enough for me to buy his CD and check him out. While at his mechandise table, I got to talk to him for a minute and the guy was very gracious, he signed my CD, dapped and hugged me. Needless to say he is excited about this first CD and the opportunity to perform. I will do an artist profile on him next week.
The next act was Black Alley . Now the last I heard about Black Alley, they were a gogo band with an R&B influence. But after watching them perform Monday, I would say they are an R&B band with a gogo influence. The lead singer, Kacey, was very energize and she was showing off her range. The band also did their thing as they kept the crowd’s attention with a mixture of originals and covers. Check out the snippets below. Please note that the lighting in this spot was a bit funky, so all the performers are in blue light and sorry if I’m a bit shaky ![]()
****PAUSE THE IPOD****
Next up Mr. Roberson, he opened with the song “Newness” from the “Music Fan” album and then a gogo mix of “Coudn’t Hear Me Over My Music ” using two DC gogo classics “Sardines” & “Doin the Butt”. He announced that he was nominated for a grammy for best urban/alternative performance for the single “Still” off the “Music Fan” album. He also gave props to the lead guitist, in his very talented band, Curt Chambers. Curt played guitar on grammy nominated hit for Jaheim – Finding my way back. He is by far the best guitarists I have seen live as you will hear in the clip below. Erro also mentioned that the new album is 80% done and should be ready by the summer. He went on to perform more of his underground hits, “Still”, “Pretty Girl” , etc. While perfoming “Softest Lips” he took one of the many cameras in the crowd trying to catch a video clip and well you will see in the clip below. He then threw in a little Force MD’s “Tender Love” after his “camera time”. He ended the show with with a house mix of “Rock with You”. If you have never seen Erro live, treat your self.
