The Box Fridays: The Boys

Today is Friday and time for another video. I was not looking to dig deep today, just wanted to find a song everyone knows. I also like to get a little information on some of our favorite old school artist. Its always intriguing to find out the background information on an act, but I found ‘The Boys’ story extremely interesting. They started out like alot of boy bands, singing outside, doing talent shows, etc. They got discovered and ended up on Motown’s label. Even at a young age they wrote and produced some of their own music. Babyface & LA Reid came along and gave them the songs that put them on the map. Two albums and many tours and TV appearenances later their contract with Motown had expired. Motown was luke warm on their self produced album, “Saga Continues”, but still wanted to sign the group to a new six year contract. ‘The Boys’ turned down the offer. Some years later they all moved to Gambia in West Africa. They learned the native language, set up their own studio and began produce positive music under their new name ”The Suns of Light”. While doing my research on them, I did not expect their story to take that turn but its pretty awesome how they stayed true to their vision.
